Um bom espectáculo para quem pôde ver. A encenação de Francesca Zambello é vistosa mas com componentes discutíveis. Uma abordagem original para a marcha fúnebre do Siegfried e no final uma mensagem positiva de renascimento muitas vezes usada.

A Orquestra e o Coro estiveram muito bem e a direcção musical de Donald Runnicles foi muito boa.

Quanto aos solistas, as Nornas Ronitta Miller (1ª Norna) e  Jamie Barton (2ª Norna) excelentes e Sarah Cambridge (3ª Norna) bem.

Daniel Brenna foi Siegfried muito agradável e manteve a qualidade interpretativa até ao fim.

Outro cantor excelente foi Andrea Silvestrelli que construiu um Hagen fantástico. Voz magnífica e interpretação cénica ao mais alto nível. Brian Mulligan (Gunther) e Melissa Citro (Gutrune) cumpriram sem deslumbrar.

Jamie Barton foi também a Waltraute e foi excelente.

Falk Struckmann fez um Alberich correcto.

As filhas do Reno também estiveram bem.

Excelente foi a Iréne Theorin como Brünhilde. Esteve sempre bem, mas no final do 3º acto foi excepcional.

Um excelente espectáculo.

GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, San Francisco Opera, Streaming, March 2021

A good show for those who could see it. Francesca Zambello's staging is showy but with debatable components. An original approach to Siegfried's funeral march and in the end a positive rebirth message often used.

The Orchestra and the Choir were very good and the musical direction of Donald Runnicles was of top quality.

As for the soloists, the Norns Ronitta Miller (1st Norn) and Jamie Barton (2nd Norn) were excellent and Sarah Cambridge (3rd Norn) was good.

Daniel Brenna was a very pleasant Siegfried and maintained his interpretive quality until the end.

Another excellent singer was Andrea Silvestrelli who built a fantastic Hagen. Magnificent voice and scenic interpretation at the highest level.

Brian Mulligan (Gunther) and Melissa Citro (Gutrune) fulfilled without being dazzled.

Jamie Barton also sang Waltraute and was excellent. Falk Struckmann was a correct Alberich. The Rhine's daughters also did well.

Excellent was Iréne Theorin as Brünhilde. She was always well, but at the end of the 3rd act she was exceptional.

An excellent performance.

No próximo fim de semana a Ópera de San Francisco termina a transmissão co ciclo do Anel de Wagner com a derradeira opera O Crepúsculo dos Deuses / Götterdämmerung.

A encenação é de Francesca Zambello e a direcção musical de Donald Runnicles. Orquestra e Coro da Ópera de San Francisco.

Nos protagonistas teremos Iréne Theorin (Brünhilde), Daniel Brenna (Siegfried), Brian Mulligan (Gunther), Melissa Citro (Gutrune), Andrea Silvestrelli (Hagen), Jamie Barton (Waltraute e 2ª Norn), Falk Struckmann (Alberich), Ronitta Miller (1ª Norn) e Sarah Cambridge (3ª Norn).

Next weekend, the San Francisco Opera concludes the broadcast with the Wagner Ring cycle with the final opera The Twilight of the Gods / Götterdämmerung.

SIEGFRIED, San Francisco Opera

Terceira opera do Anel de Wagner, mais um espectáculo muito agradável. 

Na encenação de Francesca Zambello, os cenários mantiveram a coerência já observada na ópera A Valquíria e deverão ter sido de grande impacto visual ao vivo.

O maestro Donald Runnicles dirigiu a orquestra da casa. Sobre os cantores, nas transmissões há amplificação vocal e, por isso, a apreciações nunca são totalmente justas. 

O Mime (David Cangelosi) esteve bem.

O Siegfried (Daniel Brenna) tentou ser dinâmico mas quebrou em parte no final.

O viajante (Wotan) (Greer Grimsley) manteve a elevada qualidade da ópera anterior.

O Alberich (Falk Struckmann) foi notável.

O Fafner (Raymond Aceto) esteve bem, e a encenação do monstro muito interessante.

O pássaro da floresta (Stacey Tappan) foi agradável e, nesta produção, esteve muito presente.

A Erda (Ronitta Miller) impôs-se vocalmente.

E a Brünhilde (Iréne Theorin) voltou a ser uma das melhores.

SIEGFRIED, San Francisco Opera

Third opera of the Wagner Ring, another very pleasant show.

In the staging of Francesca Zambello, the scenarios maintained the consistency already observed in the opera Die Walküre and must have been of great visual impact live.

Conductor Donald Runnicles conducted the house orchestra. About the singers, in the transmissions there is vocal amplification and, therefore, the appraisals are never totally fair.

Mime (David Cangelosi) did well.

Siegfried (Daniel Brenna) tried to be dynamic but broke down partly at the end.

The wanderer (Wotan) (Greer Grimsley) maintained the high quality of the previous opera.

Alberich (Falk Struckmann) was notable.

Fafner (Raymond Aceto) did well, and the staging of the monster was very interesting.

The forest bird (Stacey Tappan) was pleasant and, in this production, was very present.

Erda (Ronitta Miller) was vocal in imposing herself.

And Brünhilde (Iréne Theorin) was again one of the best.

Foi um espectáculo muito interessante, que ainda pode ser visto durante mais um dia no site da San Francisco Opera (https://sfopera.com/). 

A encenação de Francesca Zambello, que disse ter sido inspirada no ambiente e no movimento #MeToo e ser essencialmente Americana, é interessante e vistosa. O primeiro acto é muito convencional, cenicamente bem conseguido, numa casa rural com muitos troféus de caça. A Sieglinde é vítima de violência domestica pelo marido Hunding. 

A primeira cena do 2º acto passa-se no alto de um arranha-céus, sala de Wotan. Pai, filha e depois a Fricka, todos partilham um whisky. 

A segunda cena passa-se debaixo de um viaduto, num emaranhado de auto-estradas. Sieglinde e Sigmund são “sem abrigos”.  A terceira cena acontece no mesmo cenário mas, num dos viadutos, a Fricka assiste, de cima, a tudo.

No início do 3º acto, passado numa estrutura com muitas escadas e andaimes metálicos, as valquírias chegam de pára-quedas e trazem retratos dos heróis. 

Tudo acontece neste cenário, o menos conseguido de toda a ópera.

Sob a direcção do maestro Donald Runnicles a orquestra teve uma interpretação de qualidade. Nos solistas há grandes cantores: Karita Mattila foi uma Sieglinde cenicamente interessante mas vocalmente banal,

Brandon Jovanovich fez um Siegmund estático e pouco emotivo, sobretudo no 1º acto,

Raymond Aceto foi um bom Hunding,

Iréne Theorin esteve muito bem como Brünhilde, 

Greer Grimsley foi um Wotan respeitável e

Jamie Barton foi excepcional como Fricka, a melhor da récita. 

A Valquíria é sempre um espectáculo excelente!

DIE WALKÜRE, San Francisco Opera, Streaming 13-14 March 2021

It was a very interesting show, which can still be seen for another day on the San Francisco Opera website (https://sfopera.com/).

The production by Francesca Zambello, who said she was inspired by the environment, the #MeToo movement and a production essentially American, is interesting and showy. The first act is very conventional, scenically well accomplished, in a rural house with many hunting trophies. Sieglinde is a victim of domestic violence by her husband Hunding. The first scene of the 2nd act takes place on top of a skyscraper, Wotan's room. Wotan, daughter and then Fricka, they all share a whiskey. The second scene takes place under an overpass, in a tangle of highways. Sieglinde and Sigmund are "homeless". The third scene takes place in the same scenario, but in one of the viaducts, Fricka watches everything from above. At the beginning of the 3rd act, carried out in a structure with many stairs and metallic scaffolding, the valkyries arrive by parachute and bring portraits of the heroes. Everything happens in this scenario, the least accomplished of the entire opera.

Under the direction of conductor Donald Runnicles, the orchestra had a quality interpretation.

In the soloists there are great singers: Karita Mattila was a Sieglinde that was scenically interesting but vocally banal, Brandon Jovanovich was a static and little emotional Siegmund, especially in the 1st act, Raymond Aceto was a good Hunding, Iréne Theorin was very well as Brünhilde, Greer Grimsley was a respectable Wotan and Jamie Barton was exceptional as Fricka, the best of the performance.

Die Walküre is always an excellent show!

Nos solistas há grandes cantores: Karita Mattila como Sieglinde, Brandon Jovanovich como Siegmund e Raymond Aceto como Hunding.
