Perdoem-me aqueles que adoram música do século XX mas, para mim, dodecafonismo, atonalismo e outros ismos do género não encontram formatação (pelo menos ainda) no meu cérebro e no meu coração. Foi-me algo penoso escutar o Concerto de Câmara de Alban Berg...
A segunda parte iniciou-se com os Funf frühe Lieder de Mahler com a orquestração de Luciano Berio. O solista foi o barítono Detlef Roth. Dotado de clássica voz de barítono, timbre bonito, voz expressiva, fez-me lamentar não ter apostado em ir a Genebra, em Março deste ano, e ouvir o Parsifal em cena. Fez de Amfortas e presentemente é o Amfortas na produção de Bayreuth. Esperemos pela transmissão da Antena 2 para avaliar a sua capacidade interpretativa neste papel wagneriano.
A acabar, Foster ofereceu-nos uma obra que frequentemente tem trazido ao palco da Gulbenkian: a 8ª sinfonia de Schubert. E compreende-se a razão. Apesar de incompleta, encerra talvez os andamentos mais líricos das 9 sinfonias do compositor. A Orquestra da Gulbenkian ao seu mais alto nível encerrou um concerto mais do que agradável.

The conductor Lawrence Foster opened the concert today with a very intimate Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner. I can only imagine what Cosima felt when she woke listening to this piece of music so full of profound beauty and serenity. With a final so relaxing I wonder: "Why the eagerness of applause?" Let the music live and settled in your spirit, listen to the silence at the end, my Gulbenkian listeners!
Forgive me for those who love music of the twentieth century, but to me, dodecaphonism, atonalism and other “isms” of the kind are not formatted (at least yet) in my brain and my heart. It was somewhat painful to listen to the Chamber Concerto by Alban Berg ...
The second half began with the Funf frühe Lieder of Mahler's with orchestration by Luciano Berio. The soloist was the baritone Detlef Roth. Featuring a classic baritone voice, beautiful tone, expressive voice, he made me regret my absence at the Geneva Parsifal early this March. He played Amfortas and he is currently the Amfortas of the Bayreuth production also.
At the end, Foster gave us a work he has often brought to this stage: the 8th Symphony of Schubert. And we understand why. Although incomplete, it contains perhaps the most lyrical movements of the nine symphonies of the composer. The Gulbenkian Orchestra was at its highest level concluding a more than pleasant concert.
