A ambiência sonora é única e principalmente quando temos os coros que estão impecáveis, tal como a direção e orquestra!

Groissböck está num pico altíssimo!!! As nuances vocais que não fazia no ano passado faz agora! E a voz está impecável, nos graves, nos agudos... estou já em pulgas para o Wotan dele para o ano! Atingiu a perfeição como Gurnemanz! E só começou a cantar o papel no ano passado! Não consigo dizer mais nada a não ser que este é o melhor baixo wagneriano da atualidade (que me perdoe o Zeppenfeld...).

Um Titurel (Schwinghammer) perfeito e grave! O segundo acto foi do outro mundo!!! A dupla Schager - Pankratova está ao mesmo nível estrelar dos últimos 2 anos. Tudo é perfeito. Esta vai ficar para sempre como uma das melhores duplas da história de Bayreuth! O Klingsor do Derek Welton embrulha excelentemente o pack!

No terceiro acto, sobre Schager não tenho palavras. 

E a actriz que é Pankratova num acto em que só diz 2 palavras... surreal!

Só houve um elo fraco... o Amfortas do Ryan McKinny. O timbre não dá... vê-se que ele até tenta interpretar em algumas passagens mas não sai; tudo muito igual, sem emoção. A única coisa que tem de jeito e para a encenação porque tem de se despir é o corpo mas eu preferia umas banhas e uma voz e interpretação melhor. Mas deste já eu estava à espera. Não sei porque não veio o Thomas Johannes Mayer este ano... Contudo, no último monólogo, esteve melhor.

The sound ambience is unique and especially when we have the choirs that are impeccable, such as the conductor and orchestra!

Groissböck is at a very high peak!!! The vocal nuances he didn't do last year he does now! And the voice is flawless, at the low and at the top register... I'm already looking forward for his Wotan next year! He reached perfection as Gurnemanz! And just started singing the role last year! I can't say anything else except that he is the best Wagnerian bass today (forgive me Zeppenfeld ...).

The second act was out of this world!!! The duo Schager - Pankratova is at the same star level as the last 2 years. Everything is perfect. This will be forever one of the best doubles in Bayreuth history!

Derek Welton's Klingsor packs the pack excellently!

In the third act I have no words about Schager. And the actress who Pankratova is in an act that only says 2 words ... surreal!

There was only one weak link ... Ryan McKinny's Amfortas. The timbre does not work ... one can see that he even tries to interpret in some passages but does not go out; all the same, without emotion. The only thing that is good for staging because he has to undress is the body but I would prefer some fat but a better voice and interpretation. But this one I was waiting for. I don't know why Thomas Johannes Mayer didn't come this year ... But in the last monologue, McKinny was better.

Parsifal, Concerto de Páscoa, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisboa, Abril 2019

O Teatro de São Carlos ofereceu-nos um Concerto de Páscoa baseado na ópera Parsifal de R. Wagner, incluindo o prelúdio, coros da Cena do Graal (I Acto) e o III Acto.

Louvo a iniciativa pois é sempre um privilégio ter oportunidade de ouvir uma ópera de Wagner em Portugal, ainda que apenas uma parte e em versão concerto. O maestro Graeme Jenkins dirigiu a Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa e o Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.

Foi um concerto agradável, a orquestra e o coro cumpriram sem deslumbrar. Nos solistas o tenor americano Erin Caves (Parsifal) passou por grandes dificuldades e, em certas ocasiões, quase quebrou completamente. O experiente baixo-barítono austríaco Michael Kraus (Amfortas) foi correcto sem impressionar. A soprano portuguesa Sónia Alcobaça (Kundry) emitiu alguns gemidos e cantou apenas duas palavras Dienen… dienen!.

O grande intérprete da noite foi baixo croata Ante Jerkunica (Gurnemanz) que nos brindou com a sua bela voz grave, forte e bem timbrada, numa interpretação ao nível do melhor que se ouve nas grandes catedrais da ópera.

Parsifal, Easter Concert, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon, April 2019

Teatro Nacional de São Carlos offered us an Easter Concert based on the opera Parsifal by R. Wagner, including the prelude, Grail Scene choirs (I Act) and the III Act.

I commend the initiative because it is always a privilege to have the opportunity to listen to a Wagner opera in Portugal, although only a part and in concert version. Maestro Graeme Jenkins directed the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of the National Theater of São Carlos.

It was a pleasant concert, the orchestra and the choir complied without dazzling. In the soloists, American tenor Erin Caves (Parsifal) went through great difficulties and, on certain occasions, almost broke completely. The experienced Austrian bass-baritone Michael Kraus (Amfortas) was correct without impressing. Portuguese soprano Sónia Alcobaça (Kundry) expressed a few moans and sang only two words Dienen ... dienen!.

The great interpreter of the evening was Croatian bass Ante Jerkunica (Gurnemanz) who offered us his beautiful bass and strong voice, in an interpretation at the level of the best that can be heard in the great cathedrals of the opera.

Com este Parsifal de 19 de Agosto de 2018 em Bayreuth, já posso morrer (pelo menos artisticamente). Finalmente um Amfortas sofrido na voz e no acto, capaz de trazer com uma naturalidade imponente toda a alma da personagem!!! Que emoção!!! A interpretação do Thomas J. Mayer foi e é de antologia!!! Só não me coloquei de joelhos porque não havia espaço para tal! Que upgrade em relação ao ano passado! Os Erbarmen foram arrepiantes!!!

Groissböck fez um Gurnemanz colossal!!! A imponência e potência vocais são as que já se conhece, quer nos agudos, quer nos graves, não perde clareza ou beleza de timbre; só lhe faltam algumas nuances vocais nos sítios certos, maioritariamente no 1o acto, (talvez ele possa rever isso com o Franz Josef Selig...) para que venha ser um Gurnemanz histórico (em Bayreuth e onde quer que cante) - cresce em mim, cada vez que o oiço, o desejo de ouvir o seu Wotan, anunciado para Bayreuth em 2020. Deus mo permita. Poderei então voltar a venerar um Wotan. 

A direção do Bychkov é sempre perfeita, gigante, em tudo como eu gosto. Ele sabe elevar os momentos-chave de forma perfeita. E o som que se recebe à frente... é absolutamente incrível. O coro de palco estrondoso, o fora de palco no balanço acústico perfeito!!! Memorável!!

O Titurel, Tobias Kehrer, foi fenomenal! Então no Oh, heilige Wonne... voz melosa no heute... excelente!

O 2o acto foi B-R-U-T-A-L!!!!! Schager e Pankratova são imparáveis!!!! Schager cada vez que o vou vendo mais, mais perfeito é neste papel!!! A sua naturalidade e segurança interpretativa é impressionante!! Este homem é um marco como Parsifal!!! 

E a Pankratova... os agudos dela são do mais arrepiante que há de tão sentidos e tão perfeitos tecnicamente. Quando ela “grita” que riu de Cristo na Cruz, é perfurante!!! 

E ambos em palco transmitem uma química indescritível e que nem câmaras nem rádios conseguem captar genuinamente. Fiquei completamente de rastos! 

Derek Welton é um enorme Klingsor! Sublime!

O 3º acto foi descomunalmente brilhante!!! Tudo perfeito, Groissböck brutalíssimo, Schager brilhante, Bychkov e a orquestra sobre-humanos!!! No final, um emotivo silêncio de talvez 15 segundos até se fechar a luz do palco (a qual desde o momento da entrada do coro me apontava à face como se de luz purificante se tratasse) e começarem os aplausos. Foi memorável! 

Este foi, até ao momento e sem dúvidas o melhor Parsifal a que já assisti, destronando do 1o lugar do pódio, o também dirigido por Bychkov, em Abril de 2016 em Madrid

With this Parsifal of August 19, 2018 in Bayreuth, I can die (at least artistically) ... Finally an Amfortas suffering in the voice and in on stage, able to bring with an imposing naturalness the whole soul of the character!!! How exciting!!! The interpretation of Thomas J. Mayer is of anthology!!! I just did not get down on my knees because there's no room!!! What an upgrade over last year! The Erbarmen were creepy!!!

Groissböck is a colossal Gurnemanz!!! Vocal majesty and power are those that are already known, in both the top and low notes, he does not lose clarity or beauty of timbre. He just lacks a few vocal nuances in the right places (maybe he can review this with Franz Josef Selig :)) so that he becomes a reference Gurnemanz (in Bayreuth and wherever he sings) - it grows in me, every time I hear him, the desire to listen to his Wotan, announced for Bayreuth in 2020. God grant me. I will then be able to venerate a Wotan again.

The musical direction of Bychkov is always perfect, colossal, in everything as I like, he knows how to raise key moments perfectly. And the sound you get ahead ... is absolutely incredible. The chorus on stage is thunderous, the chorus off stage with perfect acoustics!!! Memorable!

Titurel by Tobias Kehrer was phenomenal! On Oh, heilige Wonne ... mellow voice in heute ... excellent!

The 2nd act was B-R-U-T-A-L!!!!! Schager and Pankratova are unstoppable!!!! Schager every time I see him more, the more perfect is in this role !!! His naturalness and interpretation are amazing !! This man is a landmark in Parsifal!!!

And Pankratova ... her highs are the most chilling that there are, so many emotions and so technically perfect. When she "screams" that she laughed at Christ on the Cross, it is piercing!!! And both on stage convey an indescribable chemistry that neither cameras nor radios can genuinely capture. I got completely senseless!

Derek Welton is a huge Klingsor! Sublime!

The 3rd act was unbelievably brilliant!!! All perfect, Groissböck absolutely fabulous, Schager brilliant, Bychkov and the orchestra super humans!!!

 In the end, an emotional silence of perhaps 15 seconds until the light of the stage (which from the time of the entrance of the choir pointed me to the face as if it were of purifying light) was closed, and the applause began. It was memorable!

This was, until now and without doubt, the best Parsifal I have ever seen, dethroning the 1st place of the podium, the one also directed by Bychkov in April 2016 in Madrid
