Confesso que foi com emoção que voltei ao Teatro de São Carlos pela primeira vez depois do início da pandemia.
A Missa de Requiem de Donizetti é uma obra agradável e bonita. A interpretação da Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa foi boa, sob a batuta de um excelente maestro, Antonio Pirolli.

Nesta obra os solistas têm intervenções desguais. Os dois mais notáveis são o baixo, interpretado ontem por Rubén Amoretti, cantor excelente com uma voz poderosa muito bonita e colorida, e o tenor, que ontem foi Carlos Cardoso, também vocalmente bem.

Os 3 solistas restantes têm intervenções curtas. Ontem o barítono foi André Baleiro, a meio-soprano Cátia Moreso e a soprano Zarina Abaeva, cantora que muito gosto (interpretou o Requiem de Verdi de forma sublime) mas que aqui não tem como brilhar. Mas todos estiveram bem.
O Coro do Teatro de São Carlos (maestro titular Giampaolo Vessella) também esteve bem mas foi colocado em vários patamares na altura do teatro, cada elemento está protegido à frente (e talvez também dos lados) com um plástico, acrílico ou similar, o que prejudica um pouco a audição.
O Teatro estava quase vazio, o que é uma pena. O espectáculo merecia mais público e o público merece espectáculos de qualidade como este. Mas uma missa de mortos pouco conhecida à 2ª feira ao fim da tarde, a pandemia e os maus espectáculos de ópera do passado recente deverão todos ter contribuído para tão desoladora situação dentro da sala.

I confess that it was with emotion that I returned to Teatro de São Carlos for the first time after the beginning of the pandemic.
Donizetti's Requiem Mass is a pleasant and beautiful work. The performance of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra was good, under the baton of an excellent conductor, Antonio Pirolli.
In this work the soloists have unequal interventions. The two most notable ones are the bass, performed yesterday by Rubén Amoretti, an excellent singer with a very beautiful and colorful powerful voice, and the tenor, who yesterday was Carlos Cardoso, also vocally well.
The 3 remaining soloists have short interventions. Yesterday the baritone was André Baleiro, the mezzo-soprano Cátia Moreso and the soprano Zarina Abaeva, a singer I really like (she interpreted the Requiem by Verdi in a sublime way) but who can't shine here. But everyone was good.
The Choir of the Teatro de São Carlos (conductor Giampaolo Vessella) also did well but was placed on several levels at the height of the theatre, each element was protected at the front (and perhaps also on the sides) with a plastic, acrylic or similar, which it impairs hearing a little.
The theater was almost empty, which is a shame. The performance deserved more audience and the public deserves quality performances like this one. But a little-known mass for the dead on Monday in the late afternoon, the pandemic and the bad opera performances of the recent past must all have contributed to such a dismal situation inside the room.
