A sóbria igreja de St Martin in the Fields em Trafalgar Square apresenta frequentemente concertos a preços muito convidativos. A acústica é muito boa e a igreja relativamente pequena, o que permite uma boa audição em qualquer lugar.
Assisti a um concerto intitulado “Bach, Handel & Vivaldi à luz das velas”, interpretado pela “Trafalgar Sinfonia” orquestra de vários instrumentos de corda, sob a direcção do maestro Ivor Setterfield. O primeiro violino, o jovem canadiano Tetsuumi Nagata, foi um violinista impressionante.
O programa foi leve e “popularucho”, tendo sito tocados trechos bem conhecidos de vários autores para além dos mencionados: Na primeira parte ouvimos o concerto Brandenburguês No 3 de Bach, o Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 3 de Handel, Chaccone de Purcel, Adágio para cordas de Albinoni e o Concerto No 1 de L’Estro Armonico de Vivaldi.
Na segunda parte a Chegada da Rainha de Sheba de Handel, Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 4 de Corelli, Ar de Bach, Sinfonia No 1 de Salzburg de Mozart e Concerto para 4 violinos Op 3 No 10 de Vivaldi.
Uma experiência interessante.

The sober church of St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square often hosts concerts at very inviting prices. The acoustics are very good and the church relatively small, which allows for a good hearing anywhere.
I attended a concert entitled "Bach, Handel & Vivaldi by candlelight", interpreted by the "Trafalgar Symphony" orchestra of several string instruments, under the direction of the maestro Ivor Setterfield. The first violin, young Canadian Tetsuumi Nagata, was an impressive violinist.
The program was light and designed for common people, having included well-known texts of several authors in addition to those mentioned. In the first part we heard Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No 3, the Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 3 by Handel, Chaccone by Purcel, Adagio for strings by Albinoni and Concerto No 1 of L'Estro Armonico by Vivaldi.
In the second part the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba of Handel, Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 4 by Corelli, Air by Bach, Salzburg Symphony No 1 by Mozart, and Concerto for 4 violins Op 3 No 10 by Vivaldi.
An interesting experience.
