Na direcção musical esteve o conceituado maestro inglês Paul McCreesh que fez justiça à sua
reputação e ofereceu-nos um excelente espectáculo. A Orquestra Gulbenkian esteve à altura do que lhe foi exigido.

O Coro Gulbenkian
(maestro do coro, Fernando Eldoro) teve
um desempenho excepcional e, para mim, foi o responsável pelos momentos
musicais mais empolgantes da tarde.
Os três solistas foram homogéneos e de elevada qualidade. A
opção de os colocar à esquerda, na zona média do palco, mesmo ao lado das 4
trompas fez com que, frequentemente, tivessem que tapar os ouvidos para não
ensurdecerem com o som, o que foi particularmente notório (e claramente evitável!)
na segunda parte.
Andrew
Foster-Williams, baixo-barítono inglês, tem uma voz bonita e cheia. A
qualidade manteve-se ao longo de toda a récita, tanto nas árias como nos
recitativos.

Seasons, Haydn, Gulbenkian Foundation, November 2011
The Seasons is one of the great oratorios of Joseph Haydn, with libretto by Gottfried van Swieten. It is based on episodes of rural life and is composed of four parts, corresponding to the seasons of the year. The music is beautiful and among others the Adagios of summer and winter are remarkable.
Musical director was the renowned British conductor Paul McCreesh. He did justice to his reputation and offered us a great performance. The Gulbenkian Orchestra was excellent, as required.
The Gulbenkian Choir (conductor of the choir, Fernando Eldoro) had an outstanding performance and, for me, it was responsible for the most exciting musical moments of the performance.
The three soloists were homogeneous and of high quality. The option of placing them on the left, at the middle zone of the stage, right next to the four tubes obliged them frequently to cover their ears from deafened with the sound, which was particularly evident (and clearly avoidable!) in the second part.
Andrew Foster-Williams, English bass-baritone, has a beautiful full voice. The vocal quality was maintained throughout the recital, both in the arias and in recitatives.
Swedish soprano Miah Persson has shown a sound and versatile interpretation and she was always at the top level. The singing seemed effortless and the vocal timbre was very nice, especially when singing the arias.
English tenor Robert Murray was much better today than in the season premiere, when he sang "The Creation" also by Haydn. His interventions were safe, the beauty and remarkable timbre of his voice were always noticeable, even when he sang, with great quality, in mezza voce.
