Faleceu ontem (29 de Novembro), aos 66 anos de idade, o tenor alemão Peter Hofmann.
Um dos grandes tenores Wagnerianos dos anos 70 – 80, começou a sua carreira como muitos outros, através do papel de Tamino na ópera a Flauta Mágica de Mozart, ingressando progressivamente na magia wagneriana.
Conheci Hofmann no seu excelente Siegmund na gravação em DVD do Anel do Nibelungo de Patrice Chéreau, sob a direcção de Pierre Boulez e acompanhado de outros marcos do canto wagneriano como Gwyneth Jones e Donald McIntyre.
Das suas duas gravações de Parsifal destaco, a quem o quiser conhecer ou lembrar, não a de Karajan mas sim a de Levine no Festival de Bayreuth, onde muitas vezes actuou.
Paralelamente à sua carreira de cantor lírico, manteve o seu gosto activo na música rock e em musicais (o Fantasma da Ópera). Um verdadeiro artista multifacetado.
Padecendo de Doença de Parkinson desde 1994, não resistiu a uma pneumonia.
Não tendo tido a oportunidade de o ouvir ao vivo, ficam as memórias sempre renováveis pelos DVDs e CDs.
Peter Hofmann (1944 - 2010) - The death of a rebel Heldentenor
The German tenor Peter Hofmann died yesterday (29th November), at the age of 66.
One of the great Wagnerian tenors of the 70s – 80s, he began his career as many others, through the role of Tamino in Magic Flute opera by Mozart, gradually joining in the Wagner magic world.
I first got acquainted with Hofmann in his excellent Siegmund in DVD recording of Der Ring des Nibelungen by Patrice Chéreau under the direction of Pierre Boulez (the centenial production at Bayreuth). In that production, he joined several other Wagnerian singers of high excelence such as Dame Gwyneth Jones and Sir Donald McKintyre.
Of the two recordings of Parsifal I know I clearly recommend not the Karajan but the Levine one, at the Bayreuth Festival, a place where he performed so many times.
Alongside with his career of opera singer, he remained active in rock music and musicals (Phantom of the Opera). A truly multifaceted artist.
Suffering from Parkinson's disease since 1994, he succumbed to pneumonia.
Not having had the opportunity to listen him live, the memories will always be renewable through DVDs and CDs.
