MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Royal Opera House, Julho / July 202

Das várias vezes que assisti a esta bela produção da Madama Butterfly de G. Puccini na Royal Opera House, esta foi a pior. É uma opera que muito gosto, sobretudo da música. 

O maestro Dan Ettinger não fez total justiça à obra e a orquestra também não esteve isenta de responsabilidades.

Em relação aos solistas, Eri Nakamura (substituiu Lianna Haroutounian) foi uma Cio Cio San boa, tanto na interpretação vocal como cénica. Tem uma voz expressiva e foi capaz de transmitir os vários estados emotivos da personagem qb.

Gianluca Terranova foi um Pinkerton muito aquém do desejável. Não cantou bem, a voz teve uma emissão irregular, o timbre é feio e era frequentemente abafada pela orquestra. Em cena não teve a menor capacidade de se envolver ou de transmitir qualquer sentimento, com postura igual quer nos momentos de alegria como nos mais dramáticos. Surpreendo-me como a Royal Opera House contrata cantores tão fracos, não é nada frequente.

Gyula Nagi foi um Sharpless de boa figura mas banal no canto, sem empolgar. 

Patricia Brandon (substitui Kseniia Nikolaieva) fez uma Suzuky aceitável, embora com alguma irregularidade na emissão vocal.

 Alexander Kravets mal se ouviu e também não conseguiu entusiasmar no papel de Goro.

Alan Pingarrón (Príncipe Yamadori) e Rachel Lloyd (Kate Pinkerton) completaram o conjunto desinteressante de intérpretes. 

Um espectáculo muito aquém do que é habitual na Royal Opera House.

Of the many times I watched this beautiful production of Madama Butterfly by G. Puccini at ROH, this was the worst. It's an opera that I really like, especially the music. Conductor Dan Ettinger did not do full justice to the work and the orchestra was not exempt from responsibility either.

As for the soloists, Eri Nakamura (replaced Lianna Haroutounian) was a good Cio Cio San, both in vocal and scenic interpretation. She has an expressive voice and was able to convey the character's various emotional states.

Gianluca Terranova was a Pinkerton far from desirable. He didn't sing well, the voice had an irregular emission, the timbre is ugly and was often muffled by the orchestra. On stage he didn't have the slightest ability to get involved or to convey any feeling, with an equal attitude both in moments of joy and in the most dramatic.

Gyula Nagi was a Sharpless with a good figure but banal in the singing, without exciting.

Patricia Brandon (replaced Kseniia Nikolaieva) was an acceptable Suzuky, albeit with some irregularity in vocal emission.

 Alexander Kravets was barely heard and he couldn't enthuse in the role of Goro either.

Alan Pingarrón (Prince Yamadori) and Rachel Lloyd (Kate Pinkerton) completed the uninteresting ensemble of performers.

A performance very far from what is usual in Royal Opera House.
