Assisti hoje a um momento alto da temporada da Gulbenkian – a oratória Elias de Mendelssohn, interpretada pelo Coro Gulbenkian, Orquestra Gulbenkian e solistas.

A direcção musical foi do maestro Michel Corboz e, como já nos habituou neste tipo de reportório, foi excelente. O maestro do coro é Paulo Lourenço. 

A obra é de invulgar beleza e foi interpretada ao mais alto nível por todos os intervenientes.

Os 4 solistas, todos muito bons, tiveram interpretações qualitativamente homogéneas. A soprano portuguesa Ana Quintans brilhou e ofereceu-nos uma interpretação emotiva e de voz sempre afinada e bem audível sobre a orquestra.

A mezzo holandesa Helena Rasker também se impôs, tem um timbre escuro e bonito, que fez um óptimo contraste com o soprano.

O tenor alemão Christian Elsner tem uma voz de invulgar beleza e potência e foi marcante em todas as intervenções.

O baixo argentino Victor Torres, apesar de nos ter oferecido uma grande e expressiva interpretação denotou, uma ou outra vez, alguma dificuldade no registo mais grave.

 O Coro Gulbenkian foi excepcional, tanto nas intervenções conjuntas como em partes a solo de alguns dos seus elementos femininos. A Orquestra Gulbenkian, também em grande!

ELIAS by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, December 2014

I attended today a highlight of the Gulbenkian’s music season – the oratory Elias by Mendelssohn, interpreted by the Gulbenkian Choir, Gulbenkian Orchestra and soloists.

The musical director was Michel Corboz and, as has become customary in this type of repertoire, was excellent. The choir conductor was Paulo Lourenço. The oratory is of unusual beauty and was  interpreted at the highest level by all participants.

The four soloists were all very good and interpretations were qualitatively homogeneous. Portuguese soprano Ana Quintans was excelente and offered us an emotional interpretation, the voice was always in tune and well audible over the orchestra.

Dutch mezzo Helena Rasker was also excelente, she has a dark and beautiful timbre, which made a nice contrast to the soprano.

German tenor Christian Elsner has a voice of unusual beauty and power and was remarkable in all interventions.

Argentine bass Victor Torres, despite performing a great and expressive interpretation, denoted again and again some difficulty in the lower register.

The Gulbenkian Choir was again exceptional, both when singing together as in solo parts of some of its female members. The Gulbenkian Orchestra was also excelente.

A unique Elias at the Fundação Gulbenkian!
