(review in English below)

Il Trovatore, Metropolitan Opera, New York , April 2011
I have written about Il Trovatore have here. This time I make only a brief personal comment of a performance I attended live at the Met, which has been commented in detail by wagner_fanatic in this blog.
The production, by David Mavicar was classic, interesting and with good effect. Marco Armilliato properly directed the excellent Orchestra of the Met. The choir was also great.

Manrico was interpreted by the Argentine tenor Marcelo Alvarez. He had a high level of vocal performance, both when he was singing on stage as off stage. He has a figure something "awkward" but, nevertheless, artistically he was credible.
Leonora was interpreted by the North American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky. Her vocal power is overwhelming, but when she sings forte, she looses quality and beauty of her voice. Artistically she was very good. Despite what I said, she has offered us a great interpretation.
The Count di Luna was the Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky. He is an artist who I greatly appreciate, especially by the unusual beauty and power of his voice. And he did not disappoint me. He was fantastic, and artistically, he was also very good.
Finally, among the leading roles, Azucena was interpreted by American mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick. This mezzo role is perhaps the one I most appreciate among all of Verdi’s ones. The singer was well able to perform it and provided us with an interpretation of high quality, especially noticeable in the lower register. An interpretation to be remembered.
As a final note, I will say that this was a balanced performance, in which all the major players did well, contributing to a great show.

Fotos excelentes!!!
ResponderEliminarMáquina nova é outra coisa :)
I would love to see this show!
ResponderEliminar@ António Machado,

@ eagner_fanatic,
É verdade, máquina nova é outra coisa. Mais um ensinamento que aprendi consigo...

Yes, it is a great opera. And it is staged periodically at the Met. Try to see it because it is one of the good Verdi operas.
